did you know that elvis' music was supposed to be public domain by now?
did you know that copyright protection was never intended to cover all artists works until the end of time?
did you know that copyright protection was only supposed to cover artists work until their death, and then a little bit further?
we need to rethink our copyright 'protection' laws and get back to the idea that art/music should eventually be public domain for everyone. i'm done feeling guilty about sharing.

That would be about as ridiculous as saying we should do away with patent laws. Sure, we hear about the corporate fucks making a ton off copyright/patent laws by constantly renewing, but there are countless little guys and gals out there--and their families after they die--who make a little supplemental income because they invented some gizmo that goes on the handle of a Schwinn bicycle or a Tupperwear container. Or they own the rights to piece of literature that fell out of favor, and now is making a comback. I, for one, am glad that the Presley estate maintains control over his music. I'd hate to see one of his great tunes from the late-50s become the next "branding" tool for the Hummer H4. Of course, that could still happen...Remember the image of Fred Astaire dancing with a vacuum cleaner? Ewwww.
Folks that feel there shouldn't be any restrictions on innovations and art have the Internet to post/record/display their stuff. And that's pretty neat. Those that do, and hope to make a little money at it, have a traditional route.
Interesting site, by the way. I'm not even sure how I ended up here. Oh well, back to work.
you make a good point.
it's probably for the better, anyway. otherwise you might have to listen to 'susan when she tried' as you perused my blog.
still, i think art should be free. call me a hippie.
